American History & Bible: Pam Monck

 

(Two High school Credits)

 

This rigorous, college preparatory survey course will cover Exploration to the present in one year. Emphasis will be on class discussions, reading the textbook and primary source documents. Students will not only learn WHAT happened in American history, but WHY it happened as they sharpen their analytical and critical thinking skills. Students read the text and answer detailed questions designed to help them understand the historical time and events.

 

This class provides a strong foundation for anyone wishing to study for and take the AP American History exam for college credit.

 

Curriculum:
 
Exploring America Volumes I and II by Ray Notgrass, 2nd edition, $89.95, (includes a Documentary History of the United States, 101 Great American Poems, and The World's Great Speeches).  Students will also need to bring their Bibles to class.

NOTE: This curriculum will allow students a literature credit only if it is done at home under parental supervision.

 

There may be some outside reading, research and reports.

 
 

Class is offered for Grades 9 - 12.

Class Time: 2 hours. This is a two 16-week semester, 8 month, class.

 

Biography: 

Pam has a BA in International Affairs from Trinity University, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston and practiced civil trial law for eight years before having children.  Pam's previous work experiences include interning for a congressman in Washington, DC, and being a tour guide at the Alamo.  She has been homeschooling for 15 years, and her goal in whatever she teaches is to make her students "think" and "discuss".
