Art History & Appreciation HS: Christine Palmer
Fine Arts Credit
In Art History & Appreciation, students will recognize God as Creator and Author of individual, human creativity. Students will discover the artist's role in history and see how art takes many forms and purposes by looking at different cultures and artists throughout history. They will practice art criticism in a logical thinking sequence and be able to express personal
views and styles within a Christian Worldview. Students will also learn the elements and principles of visual organization-design, and learn/use art vocabulary. In conjunction with the cultures or art movements we study, students will get an opportunity to experiment with some of these mediums of art in hands-on studio activities using both two and three dimensional forms.
Class Synopsis:
A field trip to a gallery or museum.
Art activities in drawing, painting, sculpture & collage will be provided with inspiration from each artist or culture.
A brief Artist Research paper will be assigned each year; students will be given a choice of several artists.
Artist's worldviews will be discussed and compared with the Biblical Christian Worldview.
