Class - Biblical Theology in Christian Living
|
|
SKU: Biblical Theology

Biblical Theology in Christian Living: Tom Hall
Following up on the Introduction to Biblical Theology Course but also standing alone as a subject of study, this course
will challenge High School students to find their place in the story of Scripture as actors in God’s ongoing drama of
redemption and restoration of his fallen creation. Biblical worldview will be presented from a narrative perspective as
the best way to engage young adults in discerning and faithful Christian discipleship. The textbook, Living at the
Crossroads by Goheen and Bartholomew, will help students examine the postmodern world they live in as a challenge
of cross-cultural mission for Christ. Class time will be spent in lecture and class discussion, and students will complete
two extensive essays reflecting their increased understanding of and strategy for their calling as believers.
As class lectures and discussion will closely follow the textbook, its Table of Contents may be helpful in assessing the
suitability of the course:
Chapter 1: Gospel, Story, Worldview, and the Church’s Mission
Chapter 2: Just What Is a Worldview?
Chapter 3: A Biblical Worldview: Creation and Sin
Chapter 4: A Biblical Worldview: Restoration
Chapter 5: The Western Story: The Roots of Modernity
Chapter 6: The Western Story: The Growth of Modernity
Chapter 7: What Time Is It? Four Signs of Our Time in the Western Story
Chapter 8: Living at the Crossroads: A Faithful, Relevant Witness
Chapter 9: Life at the Crossroads: Perspectives on Some Areas of Public Life
Further information about the textbook and the approach to be pursued in this class may be found at
Grades 10 - 12
Class Time: 1 1/2 hours - This is a two-16 week semester totaling 8 months.
Biography:
Tom Hall comes to classroom teaching from his background as a local church pastor, a home school father and a life-long student and teacher. With degrees from Dallas Baptist University (B.A. English) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.), he has continued to read, study and teach in various academic and creative fields. As a pastor, he led his church in supporting the founding of a University-Model School in Central Texas. He has served churches and ministries in Georgia and Texas since 1986, most recently for almost ten years in Flower Mound. He grew up in the H-E-B area, where his parents still live.
Mr. Hall’s understanding of the implications of the Gospel leads him to approach every field of study in terms of its relationship to the Lordship of Jesus and the historical purposes of God through him and his people. Because God has given his people a role to play in his renewal of all creation through Christ, it is necessary for them to consider every subject as a means to this end.
Husband to Joy and father to Lauren, Micah and Elijah (all adults), Mr. Hall is eager to invest his energy and knowledge in young people who want to find and fulfill their roles in God’s purposes.
