This course fully treats all topics normally covered in an Advanced Placement AB-level calculus program, as well as many topics for a BC-level program. Successful completion of Calculus will prepare students to score well on the Advanced Placement exam. Tests and quizzes are given in class.
Calculus is designed for prospective mathematics majors and students interested in engineering, computer science, physics, business or the life sciences.
Instruction takes full advantage of graphing calculators, using them for visual demonstrations of concepts and confirming calculations.
This Calculus class will prepare you to take the AP exam or the Calculus CLEP test for college credit.
Prerequisites: Saxon Advanced Math, other pre-Calculus curriculum, or approval of instructor.
Materials: Spiral notebook, notebook paper and pencils will be provided. Scientific calculators (graphing ones not necessary), graph paper, a ruler and a compass are required.
Textbook: Saxon Calculus 2nd Edition text and test packet, Teacher Edition recommended for parents to be able to check their students homework.
Class Time: This class meets twice per week for 1 hr 15 mins each time.
This is a two 16-week semester, 8 month, class, totaling 80 hours of class time.
Free assessment/placement tests available at the Center and are required prior to first day of class in order to assure proper enrollment.
Teacher Bio:
DonnaJoy Boxerman has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Secondary
Education Certification, and a Masters of Education in Mathematics for Secondary Education. She started teaching mathematics in public schools at 20, and has gone on to teach at 5 Christian schools, a community college, a university, and at least 3 home school coops. She has over 18 years of experience teaching mathematics. She has been homeschooling for 20 years, since the oldest started kindergarten, and now 3 of her
children are in college.
