SAT Language Prep: Nancy Brown
Critical Reading & Writing
Scoring high on the SAT is critical to any student, but for the homeschool student it is even more crucial, serving as the only validation for the impressive grades on the homeschool transcript. The new SAT test is different from the previous version. It still measures reasoning ability and problem-solving skills, but it now includes a writing section that requires students to demonstrate their ability to express and organize their thoughts. Students must write an essay that takes a position on an issue and use examples to support their position. They will also be tested on how well they use standard written English.
The purpose of this eight week class is to prepare your student for the PSAT/SAT by focusing on the reading and writing sections of the SAT. Nancy Brown will teach strategies to improve critical thinking, reading and writing scores and increase vocabulary. These strategies, if implemented, along with classroom practice, will enable your student to produce a logical persuasive essay in response to a prompt. Each student will need the new CollegeBoard 2nd Edition Official SAT Study Guide with 10 tests. (Available in our store)

You must sign up for the SAT/PSAT/NMSQT at your high school or at another high school in your community. These tests are administered by high schools, not through test centers. Online registration for the PSAT/NMSQT is not available. SAT does have online registration at www.collegeboard.com. Please note that each high school chooses only one PSAT test date.
If you would like to take the SAT/PSAT/NMSQT, contact your high school counselor or principal to find out about registering for the test, paying the test fees, and learning the correct date, time, and location that your school will give the test in. Also, contact your guidance office for a copy of the Official Student Guide to the SAT/PSAT/NMSQT to help you prepare before test day.
