Study Skills - Grades 7th - 12th: Nancy Brown
Feeling overwhelmed or discouraged? Don't quite know how to tackle that load of homework? This 8 week class is for you! Learn how to study smarter, not harder. Nancy Brown will focus on 3 skills that, if implemented, will take you from average to superior! First, we will examine the difference between an average and excellent student. Next, we will learn how to create a master schedule to organize school work around our lives. Lastly, we will learn how to annotate (take notes) with a learning log.
We will spend the rest of the semester applying these techniques to the student's classes, spending 2 weeks each on Literature/Writing, Math, History and Science.
A spiral notebook is required and the book, A Students Guide to How To Study Smarter Not Harder, available at the Center for Home Education.

Biography:
Nancy Brown graduated from UTA with a BA in Speech/Communications and Marketing and a minor in English. She homeschooled her children for 13 years in the Houston area while running a homeschool co-op and teaching classes at Alvin Community College. Nancy taught classes in Speech, Advanced Speech, Honors English and a variety of writing and language arts at the elementary, middle school and high school level at the Home Education Partnership of Texas in Houston from 1999-2008, when she relocated with her husband to Dallas, Texas.
