Buying Homeschool Textbooks

Buying Homeschool Textbooks

There are many retail stores and online websites that sell homeschooling materials. However, not all of these companies have the same dedication to home education, and the amount of experience they have with using homeschool resources can vary widely. As a parent, you clearly want the best for your child, but how can you evaluate these companies when they often seem so similar? Use these tips before you buy any homeschool textbooks or let providers make any recommendations.

Once you have found a company whose ideology appears to be similar to yours, you should begin to evaluate how much experience they have with making recommendations about homeschooling. If the company is new, they may still be quite good if it was started by a family or group after an excellent homeschooling experience. Many of the best homeschool textbooks and recommendations come from a family has used that particular text or technique; experience selling doesn't necessarily mean that a company can give a good recommendation.

One of the best ways to determine a company's philosophy and experience is to have a phone conversation with one of their employees. Speaking to someone on the staff will give you a fast and easy way to determine how far their purported company philosophy extends: is there actual commitment from the sales staff as well, or is the mission statement merely words? After that phone call you will be better equipped to make your decision and choose a company to work with that you can trust.
