This course is designed to be a first-year high school chemistry course and gives the student a rigorous foundation in chemistry, in order to prepare him or her for a college-level course. The course covers significant figures, units, classification, the mole concept, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, thermodynamics, kinetics, acids and bases, redox reactions, solutions, atomic structure, Lewis structures, molecular geometry, the gas laws, and equilibrium. Students who take and understand this course will be very well-prepared for a tough university chemistry course.
Pre-requisite: Algebra 1
Apologia Chemistry 2nd Edition.
Class Time: 2 hours - This is a two 16week-semester course totaling 8 months or 64 hours of class time!
Biography: Natalie Pullen has a BA in Sociology with a minor in Psychology from the University of North Texas. Her passion for science led her to taking enough science courses to have another minor in science as well. She has taught in both private and homeschool settings and holds certification to teach Biology and Anatomy and Physiology in the public school. Natalie is a former homeschool student who loves learning and teaching and is excited about teaching at the Center. She recently moved to Texas with her husband and beautiful baby boy.

This yearlong course will use the BJU Life Science book. This course is comprehensive, with rigorous lab activities. Topics include cells, creation, life processes, microbiology, zoology, and ecosystems. and will provide a solid foundation for Biology. The class will cover the textbook material through a variety of activities including experiments, oral presentations, and projects. Materials required: BJU Life Science textbook; notebook; colored pencils (available at our bookstore). Cost of the course includes dissection specimens.
Parent must supervise the timely completion of all reading assignments, homework, and preparation for unit tests.
