Let’s explore all things Texas!!

For this class, students will explore our beautiful state of Texas, while they learn cursive writing and create an occasional piece of art. We will learn what makes our great state so GREAT! We will study the symbols of the Lone Star State, and the Texas Revolution. We will study the flag, the state pledge and motto, and look at some of the major industries in Texas.

This is not a homework heavy class, but students will be sent home with cursive practice sheets to do during the week. It is requested that students have supervised practice of 10 to 15 minutes of cursive writing 3-4 times per week. Just enough to keep them engaged and in practice.

Students will be doing a small, fun project for the 2nd semester. Each student will choose a famous Texan or Texas Landmark. They will research this at home and will give a small presentation to their classmates toward the end of the year. The presentation should consist of a short paper, and a visual presentation as well. The benefit of doing a project like this, helps to teach children how to research a topic, aids in developing organizational skills, and begins giving them practice with speaking in front of a small, familiar group.
