Welcome to the Third Grade at the Center! Our class offers a supportive and engaging learning environment for third-grade students who are being homeschooled. Our aim is to create a cooperative learning community where students can develop their academic skills, socialize with peers, and explore various subjects. With a thematic, integrated curriculum full of hands-on activities, we strive to keep young minds engaged.
In our small class setting, children can learn together through group discussions and small center rotations, fostering a loving environment. Here are some of the subjects and topics we will cover:
1. Language Arts:Â phonics, reading, spelling, writing, grammar and punctuation, literature, art, poetry memorization and appreciation, and geography.
2. Mathematics: advanced addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, beginning geometry, graphing, time, measurement, and so much more.
3. Handwriting:Â 85% of the course focuses on teaching cursive, and 15% of the course on cementing correct print formation.
Parental involvement is crucial for homeschooling success. Parents are encouraged to actively participate in their child's learning by providing support, reviewing and completing homework assignments, and reinforcing concepts at home. Students will have math and literacy homework of approximately 90 minutes per week (30 minutes each day we are not in class). Each student will have a take-home folder to facilitate learning between the Center and your family's personal homeschool journey. Reminder: according to the Center's Covenant, parents/guardians must agree to do the required homework and respond to all emails/texts from teachers and the Center to be a good fit for classes. Â
Before the first day of class, parents will be required to attend an orientation to Third Grade at the Center. During this orientation, parents will receive a scope and sequence for the year, details on at-home learning, and an opportunity to address any questions or concerns.
Third-grade students should bring a backpack, water bottle, and daily snack/lunch to class. In addition, each student needs to dress comfortably for outside playtime. We encourage you to join us on this exciting educational journey!
