The Algebra 1 class, taught by Pamela Baker, is a foundational mathematics course that introduces students to the essential concepts of algebra, including variables, expressions, equations, functions, and real-world problem-solving. Students will develop critical thinking skills as they learn to analyze and manipulate mathematical relationships. The course covers topics such as linear equations and inequalities, systems of equations, exponents, polynomials, factoring, quadratic functions, and basic data analysis.
Through engaging lessons, hands-on activities, and real-world applications, students will build a strong mathematical foundation that prepares them for advanced math courses and everyday problem-solving.
Benefits of Taking Algebra 1:
Develops Problem-Solving Skills – Enhances logical thinking and analytical reasoning that apply to real-life situations.
Prepares for Higher-Level Math – Serves as the building block for Algebra 2, Geometry, and beyond.
Improves Critical Thinking – Encourages students to approach challenges systematically and think abstractly.
Applies to Real-World Situations – Helps in understanding patterns, finance, science, technology, and engineering concepts.
Boosts Academic and Career Readiness – Provides a strong mathematical foundation for college and future careers in STEM fields.
By the end of the course, students will gain confidence in their mathematical abilities and be well-equipped to tackle more advanced math concepts.
*Pre-Algebra is a pre-requisite for Algebra 1.

Homework Requirements:
According to the Center's recommendation, it is advised to allocate 20 minutes for homework, 4 days a week. This duration is considered suitable for maintaining a balanced workload and allowing students to reinforce their learning outside of the classroom. By dedicating this amount of time to homework, students can effectively review and practice the concepts taught in class, leading to better understanding and retention of the material.
***In the event your student has not successfully completed the previous Math course through the Center, an assessment of readiness will be required prior to the beginning of class.***
