Pre-Requisites for this class are ASL 1, ASL 2 and ASL 3.
ASL 4, taught by Pamela Dixson, is an advanced American Sign Language course designed for students who have a strong foundation in ASL and want to refine their skills in expressive and receptive signing. This course emphasizes fluency, accuracy, and cultural awareness, focusing on advanced grammar structures, storytelling, role-shifting, classifiers, and complex conversations. Students will engage in in-depth discussions, presentations, and real-world applications of ASL, further developing their ability to communicate effectively in both casual and professional settings.
Additionally, ASL 4 explores Deaf culture and history, providing a deeper understanding of the Deaf community’s rich traditions, values, and contributions. Students will have the opportunity to participate in immersive experiences, including interactions with members of the Deaf community and community events, to enhance their linguistic and cultural competence.

Homework Requirements:
According to the Center's recommendation, high school students are advised to spend 2-4 hours per week on homework. This time allocation is considered appropriate to ensure a balance between academic responsibilities and other extracurricular activities. It allows students to consolidate their learning, complete assignments, and develop a deeper understanding of the subjects they are studying. However, it is important to note that individual student needs may vary, and some students may require more or less time to complete their homework effectively.
Students will be required to keep a practice log for required minutes of studying/practicing each week.
