Crew class is an opportunity for students to work behind the scenes for our theatre productions. This class ONLY meets during the weeks of rehearsals for our mainstage theatre productions (around 12 weeks).

Crews are not very large, usually 6 students max. They are the ones who design, construct, and paint sets. They move sets onto the stage and off the stage during each rehearsal and production. Depending on experience, they also have other responsibilities such as running the sound or the lights, assisting with costumes, props, and stage make-up/hair.

If you are interested in working on the Crew, you will need to apply at the Front Desk once you see that we are announcing auditions for the upcoming mainstage production.

At that time you must fill out an application, be selected, and enroll in the Crew class.

You will also need to attend rehearsals (4:30-6:30 twice weekly, Tues/Thurs), and Tech week/Performances (check the show pages on the Cottage Theatre website for specific dates), which will be in the evenings.

Parents are required to volunteer during Tech and performances which include needs like Annex Mom (our dressing room chaperones), Usher, and Line Reader. Parents are also required to attend the first 30 minutes of the first rehearsal to go over important theatre information as well as sign a Contract of Commitment with your student.

Students are expected to be responsible for being on time, making and following lists, being trusted backstage, in the garage, and/or in the tech-booth, and depending on their individual jobs; cleaning, handling props and costumes (including organizing), using tools (including power tools), using paint (without getting it all over the stage!), caring for paint brushes, and using sound/light boards.

Students must wear clothes, shoes, and hairstyles that they can get dirty and work in safely.

Each family will receive two complimentary tickets per Crew Member.
