This course serves as an introduction to the ukulele and will provide students with instant access to making music on the ukulele. Focus points will be strumming and rhythms, reading music, improvising, and performing songs in groups and solo. Students will first learn proper techniques for holding, tuning, and strumming. They will then build up from these foundational concepts and techniques into learning chords, reading music, and playing a variety of songs. Students will have the opportunity to display their new talents at both the Christmas Showcase and the End of the Year Showcase.

Students will be expected to practice their new skills at home each week and to memorize a variety of chords and scales. This will aid in the successful development of their new talent.

The skills gained in this class will allow students to play with their peers and combine their knowledge of scales and chords into songwriting and improvisation.

Sheet music and a notebook will be provided to each student.

Students are required to provide their own ukulele and must bring a pencil and their music folders to class each week.
