Zoology for 3rd-5th grade, taught by Tanya Stuart, will teach students about the amazing design and characteristics of flying creatures as part of God’s creation. Prerequisite for this class: students must be able to read at grade level.
Students will explore animal classification and the dynamics of flight and will be able to connect the design they see in these incredible creatures to their Creator.
They’ll also have fun engaging with the birds and animals around them as they complete the exercises from the textbook and Notebooking Journal. They’ll learn how to attract local bird species and then identify them by looking at their unique physical characteristics, diverse nests, and intriguing domestic practices. They will learn about the dynamics of flight and the uniqueness of birds, the value and misconceptions of bats, and the anatomy of insects
The student textbook provides engaging hands-on activities to help them solidify the concepts they are learning.
The Notebook Journal provides students with recording experiences, observations, thoughts, learning vocabulary, and engages students in the
scientific process.
Some of the activities and experiments your student will complete in this course include designing and experimenting with gliders, crafting a field notebook, building and seed feeder, testing which colors attract birds,
building a birdbath, constructing a birdhouse, and much more.
