Unlike many history programs which study history chronologically, this class is a cultural study focusing on several less-familiar countries and regions, including Africa, China, India, North Korea, and the Middle East. Students can earn both a history and literature credit through this course, while also developing a heart for world missions. We will learn about ancient and complex Eastern societies which are home to 90% of the world’s unevangelized people groups; discover the birth of the world’s 5 major religions and how they spread; and meet famous missionaries to the 10/40 window such as Mary Slessor, as well as people God is using to reach this part of the world today. There will be 8 main books focusing on our primary regions of study, supplemented by short stories, poems, and historical documents. Homework will include reading, writing a frequent 2-3 page paper, and in-class quizzes over the reading material.
