This class is designed for Middle School students. It is not equivalent to a High School Geography course nor should it be counted towards the High School Transcript.
We will be utilizing the book, Geography Through Art as an exciting way to springboard our survey and study of geography and social studies.
We will use parts of several middle school geography texts, video clips and at-home research assignments about the culture and art of peoples around the world.
In class we will have 50% lecture, worksheets, games and information sharing; and 50% will be hands-on Art projects (Drawing, Painting, Clay work, mixed media, Paper art, etc.) We will use some age-appropriate videos on occasion.
Students will learn about the 7 continents, the people and cultures of various areas per continent, directions, latitude, longitude, various types of maps, globes, weather, climate, and resources and economies. Students will learn the 5 themes of geography. Homework will average to one hour per week.
