Geometry is an advanced course covering the mathematics of triangles, rectangles, circles, angles, and other shapes and lines. This course will also utilize definitions, postulates, logic expressions, and theorems, classical components of Geometry. The course will end with an introduction to trigonometry; an added value compared to other Geometry courses. Students will also make shape constructions with a straightedge and compass.
Please note this class WILL NOT apply the process of geometric proofs. This course is a great preparatory study for the ACT and SAT college entrance exams related to geometry questions, however, the ACT and SAT no longer includes questions on proofs. Many school districts have also dropped proofs and instead focus on the real-life practical applications such as engineering, landscaping, and basic home projects. Classes such as Critical Thinking and other logical related classes are basically new in the education system. Much of the objectives of proof and logic are now taught in those classes. Students are receiving more logic in newly created science and language arts classes, and the discipline is redundant in Geometry where the focus on calculation and application is far better understood by the student, and less frustrating. Proofs are vague, and each teacher would do them differently.
