This course will offer students a survey into the history presented in the Old and New Testament. We will NOT cover every verse of the Bible, but will focus on main themes, historical significance, and cultural impact. It will not be a doctrinal study or focus on any denomination. Secular, parallel history will be applied where appropriate. (For example, did you know that Daniel was alive when Confucius was alive?) Our main book will strictly be the NIV Bible and the teacher will guide each class through the books or groups of books of the Bible in order.Students will not be required to use the NIV, but should still be able to make comparisons between the translations. The teacher will help where necessary. Supplementary material will include maps, hand-outs, and videos.
Daily homework may not always be assigned, but longer term projects/papers, group assignments, quizes, research opportunities, and individual presentations will make up a final grade for each semester. This class requires more reading and at higher levels than the average class. Students are expected to read aloud in class as well as at home. The class will also participate in a group service project. This class is not recommended for those who do not have a love for God and others.
